NGC 5746 is a beautiful, edge-on spiral galaxy in Virgo. In an 8" telescope, it appears as a thin line with a bright central bulge. The prominent dark lane is visible in a 12" telescope. In a 17.5" telescope, the view is reminiscent of NGC 4565.
