NGC 524

NGC 524 is a moderately large and bright face-on spiral galaxy in Pisces. In an 18 inch telescope it appears as a round patch of light, with a brighter in the centre. Of the numerous fainter galaxies surrounding NGC 524 in the above image, the brightest 3 are the 13.5 magnitude NGC 518; (Bottom right) the 13.3 magnitude NGC 516; (right) and the 13.3 magnitude NGC 525. (top). All of these are visible in an 18 inch telescope.
