NGC 5248

Combination of 2, 2 minute exposures, and 2, 3 minute exposures.
SBIG ST4 CCD. 300mm f/6 newtonian telescope at prime focus.

NGC 5248 is a large and moderately bright spiral galaxy in Bootes. It is easily visible in an 8" telescope. In the image above, the patches on the side are caused by frosting on the CCD chip. This was one of the first CCD images I took. One thing that I do find very surprising, is that it is almost 9 years since I took this series of images; yet I have never reimaged this galaxy! Something I will have to remedy. Only one problem..... so many objects.... so dark clear nights! :-(

Combination of 5, 3 minute images unfiltered.
SBIG STL-1001E CCD. 20" f/6.8 Dall-Kirkham cassegrain telescope at prime focus.
Taken in bright moonlight.
