NGC 5053

Combination of 15, 120 second images. Modified Canon Digital Rebel DSLR camera.
5" f/5 refractor at prime focus.

NGC 5053 is a moderately large but faint globular cluster in Coma Berenices, about 1 degree east of the brighter globular cluster, M53. It is not an easy in an 8" telescope, although in dark skies it is visible without too much difficulty and some resolution of the outer regionscan be achieved. In the above image, part of M53 is visible at the right-hand edge.
