NGC 4725

45 minutes exposure, Fuji Superia 400 film.
5" f/5 refractor at prime focus.

NGC 4725 is a bright spiral galaxy in Coma Berenices, about 3 degrees south of the star 31 comae, and about 4 degrees east of NGC 4565. It is an outlying member of the Virgo cluster, and is easily visible as an oval patch of light with a bright nucleus in an 8" telescope. With a 12" telescope, some hint of the spiral armes can be discerned.

There is a number of fainter galaxies in the region., two of which are easily seen in the photograph. The galaxy to the upper left (north east) of NGC 4725 is NGC 4747, while the galaxy to the lower right (south west) in NGC 4712.
