NGC 4603


Combination of 5, 3 minute exposures, SBIG ST9XE CCD camera.
300mm f/6 newtonian telescope at prime focus.

NGC 4603 is one of the brighter members of the large, scattered cluster of galaxies in Centaurus. At magnitude 12.3, it is easily visible in an 8" telescope. In a 12" telescope numerous other galaxies are visible are visible in the region. Among the other galaxies visible in the above image are, NGC 4603B (bottom right) NGC 4601 (edge-on above right of NGC 4603) and NGC 4603D (upper left cornor). Also visible near the centre of the image are PGC 42580 (left) and PGC 42531 (right). Partly visible at the top right is the edge-on galaxy NGC 4603C.
