NGC 4535

Combination of 3, 3 minute exposures, Meade 416 XTE CCD camera.
300mm f/6 newtonian at prime focus.

NGC 4535 is a bright, face-on spiral galaxy in Virgo that is part of the huge Virgo Cluster of galaxies. Easily visible in an 8" telescope, the galaxy appears as a moderately bright patch of light surrounding a bright nucleus. The beautiful spiral arms were not visible with a 12" telescope.

There are several faint, anonymous galaxies in the image. The brightest of these is situated above (north) of NGC 4535, and is listed in MegaStar as MAC 1234+0815, with no magnitude given. This galaxy is not plotted in "The Sky", which is somewhat surprising since the fainter galaxy to the lower right of it (just above the double star) is plotted as PGC 1342675, with a magnitude of 18.5!

Combination of 5, 3 minute images unfiltered.
SBIG STL-1001E CCD. 20" f/6.8 Dall-Kirkham cassegrain telescope at prime focus.
