NGC 4217

Combination of 5, 3 minute images unfiltered.
SBIG STL-1001E CCD. 20" f/6.8 Dall-Kirkham cassegrain telescope at prime focus.

NGC 4217 is a beautiful edge-on, spiral galaxy in Canes Venatici. It is easily visible as an elongated streak in an 8" telescope. It was a difficult object to image as it is surrounded by bright stars which bloomed very easily. Also when I took this image there were a lot of this clouds passing. These caused the glow that is visible around the stars.

The galaxy to the lower left is the magnitude 13.5 NGC 4226, while just to the left of the tip of NGC 4217 is the magnitude 18.0 PGC 213956. Towards the top left corner is another faint galaxy, the 17.3 magnitude PGC 2295162.
