NGC 3199 has been variously described and an emission nebulae, a supernova remnent, and even as an old planetary nebula. In fact it is material ejected by a Wolf-Rayet star, very similar to the "Cresent nebula", NGC 6888 in the northern sky. The brighter portions are visible in an 8" telescope.

Combination of 20, 3 minute exposures exposures using an H-alpha filter, SBIG STL-1001E CCD camera.
