NGC 3059

300mm f/6 newtonian telescope at prime focus.

NGC 3059 is a small but beautiful, face-on barred spiral galaxy in Carina. At magnitude 10.8, it is an easy object with an 8" telescope, appearing as a faint, round patch of light with a slightly brighter centre. The faint patch to the upper left is the 16.7 magnitude galaxy, PGC 253228.
