NGC 2997 is a face-on spiral galaxy in Antila. Although reasonably large, the galaxy is not particularly bright and no trace of the spiral structure is vilible in a small to medium telescope. In such an instrument the galaxy appears as an even eliptical hazy with a bright nucleus.
