NGC 28

Combination of 5, 3 minute exposures, SBIG ST9XE CCD camera.
300mm f/6 newtonian telescope at prime focus.

NGC 28 is the brightest galaxy in a chain of 13th and 14th magnitude galaxies northern Tucana, situated about 5 degrees southwest of the Achernar. At magnitude 13.0, it is easily visible in an 8" telescope. In a 12" telescope at least 6 others galaxies are visible. In adition to the brighter galaxies, there are a number of others in the field down to below 17th magnitude. Some of these would be interesting challenges for visual observation with large telescopes. In the image below, many of these galaxies have been indicated and their details reproduced in the following table.
