NGC 2899

Combination of 2, 3 minute exposures, SBIG ST-4 CCD camera.
300mm f/6 newtonian at prime focus.

NGC 2899 is a faint and fairly large planetary nebula in southern Vela. It has an unusual shape and in a 12" telescope it appears as a faint bar, with the northern end slightly wider. It is visible in an 8" telescope, as is its central star. The fainter outer regions that give the planetary its box-like shape are not visibe in a 12" telescope.
