NGC 2573 is a small, faint galaxy that presents a challenge for telescopes smaller than 12". If the skies are very dark, the galaxy may be just glimpsed with an 8" telescope and adverted vision. NGC 2573 has the distinction of being the closest NGC object to either of the celestial poles, being less than 40 arc minutes from the south celestial pole. Hence the common name, Polarisma Australis.
