NGC 2516

45 minutes exposure, Fuji Super HG V 400 film.
5" f/5 refractor at prime focus.

A large scattered cluster of bright stars, NGC 2516 would be a famous object if it were not situated so far south. The cluster is brighter than M44, being a very easy object for the naked eye. Since the cluster is very large, binoculars tend to give the best view, however the stars are sufficiently dense near the centre, to make a low magnification telescopic view impressive. It is an easy cluster to locate, being situated just south of the false cross.
