NGC 247 is a large and rather faint galaxy in Sculptor. It is a member of the Sculptor group of galaxies. This group is one of the nearest galaxiy clusters beyond the Local Group. NGC 247 has a very low surface brightness which makes it a challenge for small telescopes unless the skies are very dark.
