NGC 246


30 minutes exposure on Kodak Ektachrome 400 film, using a 5" f/5 refractor at prime focus.

NGC 246 is a moderately bright planetary nebula in Cetus, situated about 7 degrees north of the bright star Diphda. It is easily seen in an 8" telescope.

As can be seen in the photographs, there are several stars in front of the nebula. Two of these look like eyes in the telescope. There are a number of faint galaxies in the region. In the photograph below, the galaxy NGC 255 is visible to the upper left of NGC 246.
