NGC 246 is a moderately bright planetary nebula in Cetus, situated about 7 degrees north of the bright star Diphda. It is easily seen in an 8" telescope.

In an 18 inch telescope it appears as a ghostly disc, slightly fainter in the centre, with several stars superimposed. Two of these look like eyes in the telescope.
