NGC 2442

Combination of 3, 3 minute, exposures Meade 416xt CCD.
8" f/6 newtonian telescope at prime focus.

NGC 2442 is a beautiful barred spiral galaxy in In the southern constellation of Volans, just a little to the east of the Large Magellanic Cloud. At magnitude 11.2. it is not a difficult object for a 6" telescope, although the spiral arms cannot be seen. In a 12" telescope however, some hint of the spiral arms can be observed.
