NGC 2440

30 minutes exposure on Fuji Provia 400 slide film.
300mm f/6 newtonian telescope at prime focus.

NGC 2440 is a small, bright planetary nebula in Puppis, about 4 degrees south of the bright open cluster, M 46. It is a very easy object in an 8" telescope, appearing under dark skies as a bright, irregular patch with very faint extensions to the east and west. In a 17.5" telescope it is a very interesting object with considerable detail visible to the careful observer.
