NGC 2343 is a small but bright open cluster in Monoceros, on the border with Canis Major. It is surrounded by neblosity from the nearby "Seagull Nebula"; IC 2177. The component stars are mostly bright blue main-sequence stars.
There are a number of other clusters in the region. Near the top right-hand corner is NGC 2335, while just tot he right of NGC 2343 is the scattered ckuster CR 466.
