NGC 2174

Combination of 16, 2 minute images, SBIG ST-8E CCD and wide-band H-alpha filter. 50mm f/2 nikkormat lens.

NGC 2174 is a large but faint nebula in Gemini, surrounding the moderately bright open cluster, NGC 2175. The 2 bright stars to the above left of the nebula are eta geminorum (right) and mu geminorum (left). The very bright cluster above the nebula is M35. There are several faint emission nebulae in the region of the two bright stars. Almost halfway between them is the supernova remnent, IC 443, while just above mu is IC 444.
