NGC 1647

NGC 1647 is large, scattered cluster of moderately bright stars in Taurus. Although it is faintly visible to the naked eye under dark skies, and a good object for a wide field telescope, it is very poorly known and often ignored. Probably the reason for this is that it is only about 5 degrees east of the Hyades cluster.

Most of the brighter stars are A or B-type main sequence stars, however there are also a few orange giants, the 2 brightest are on the southern edge of the cluster.
