NGC 157

3 minutes exposure, SBIG ST4 CCD camera.
300mm f/6 newtonian telescope at prime focus.

NGC 157 is a bright spiral galaxy in Cetus. Easily visible in an 8" telescope, the galaxy appears as a moderately bright patch of light with a bright nucleus. It is unlikely that NGC 157 is a member of the Sculptor group despite its location as the recession velocity is much higher than for other established members of the group.

Combination of 20, 3 minute images, SBIG STL-1001E CCD.
16" f/10 schmidt-cassegrain at prime focus.

There are a number of very faint background galaxies in the image. The brightest of these is the 17.8 magnitude , PGC1003927. In the image above, it is the brighter of the two "stars" just to the lower left of NGC 157.

Combination of 5, 3 minute images unfiltered.
