NGC 1313

3 minutes exposure, Meade 416XTE CCD camera.
8" f/6 newtonian telescope at prime focus.

NGC 1313 is a large and bright, barred spiral galaxy with very loose arms in Doradus. It is a very easy object in an 8" telescope, and deserves to be much better known. The outer regions of the galaxy are highly distorted, indicating that the galaxy may have interacted with another galaxy in the relatively recent past.

Combination of 20, 3 minute exposures unfiltered.
SBIG STL-1001E CCD camera. 300mm f/6 newtonian telescope at prime focus.
