Comet 2012 X1 LINEAR

Comet 2012 X1 LINEAR was a rather non-descript looking comet expected to reach a maximum brightness of around 14th magnitude until, in late October it underwent a major outbrust and brightened up to magnitude 8! This was very reminiscent of the 2007 outburst in comet 17/P Holmes), although this outburst was much smaller. Like comet Holmes, the coma of Comet LINEAR also expanded considerably and gradually became diffuse.
