NGC 1187 is a beautiful barred spiral galaxy in Eridanus. At magnitude 11.4, it is not a difficult object with a 8" telescope. The faint galaxy beside the bright star near NGC 1187 is the 15th magnitude PGC 11489. The would be an interesting challenge for observers with large telescopes.
