Comet 2000 W1 Utsunomiya-Jones

Comet 2000 W1 Utsunomiya-Jones produced a bright display during the first two weeks of December 2000. Unfortunately at this time it was quite close to the Sun and better located for northern hemisphere observers. By the time it reappeared from behind the Sun a month later, it was fading quickly. By the time the image below was obtained in March 2001, catastrophic fading was in evidence, and this was one of the last images obtained of this comet.
