1) A current is traveling vertically upward through a wire. Part of the wire is shown in the picture below. A compass is held near the wire. Would the compass needle rotate?

(The red end of the compass needle would point toward the North pole of the Earth, if it were not near anything magnetic.) Explain your reasoning.
