Volume 3 Fall 1999

IN MEMORIAM

Alumni and friends will want to join the department in mourning the death in February, 1999 of Bob Burch. Bob worked for many years as a shop technician and machinist, first for Professor Das Gupta's research group and then for the department. Bob came to TTU in 1968 from the California Institute of Technology Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He retired in 1992. He was an excellent machinist and x-ray technician. He also was an extremely nice person and a friend to many in the department.

Alumni and friends will also want to join us in mourning the death in September, 1999 of Billy J. Sandlin. Bill was a faculty member from the 1950's until his retirement in the early 1990's. He devoted much of his career to teaching elementary physics for non-science majors. He was a computer enthusiast before computers were in common usage among physicists. He also was a very interesting conversationalist and a very nice person, who always had a pleasant greeting for everyone.
