Juyang Huang comes to us as an Associate Professor. He
is an experimental biophysicist. Most recently (1993-99) he
was Senior Research Associate in the Section of Biochemistry,
Cell and Molecular Biology at Cornell University. His
research interests are in the study of the thermodynamics and
the biophysics of lipid membranes with high cholesterol
concentrations. He has studied cholesterol precipitation from
lipid membranes using synchrotron x-ray diffraction, light
scattering, and microscopy. Some recent contributions have
been the development of a new liposome preparation method
and the development of a novel microscopic model of
cholesterol / phosholipid interactions. He has a strong external
funding and publication record and is developing a national
reputation in his area.
Dr. Huang received the Physics PhD in 1987 from the State U. of New York at Buffalo (SUNY). His dissertation was an experimental study of liquid crystal critical phenomena. He has an MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from SUNY-Buffalo and received the Physics BS from Zhejiang U. in China. His work in biophysics and his employment in the Section of Biochemistry, Cell, and Molecular Biology at Cornell began immediately after his PhD. He was a Postdoctoral Associate there from 1987-91, a Research Associate from 1991-93, and became a Senior Research Associate in 1993.
Dr. Huang's expertise and interests nicely complement those of Kelvin Cheng, the other biophysicist in the department. Together, they have the potential to give TTU national visibility in this area.
